ASHEBORO, N.C. — Roadrunners are usually pretty fast on their feet, so when a 13 year old roadrunner got on his foot, zookeepers at the North Carolina Zoo had to step in to help.

Keepers tried bandages and various treatments, but they didn’t work – so zoo officials fitted him with a special sandal to keep his foot safe.

The sandal, which wraps around the foot to protect the sore, is taken off and cleaned every few weeks.

Because of his age, he will probably wear it the rest of his life.
