It’s going to be a warm, muggy Fourth of July with a small, 20% chance of an isolated shower or thunderstorm. The UV index will be 8 out of 11, so please put on your sunscreen before heading out to Independence Day celebrations.

Skies will be mostly cloudy overnight with lows in the lower 70s.

As we head back to work on Tuesday, get ready for the beginning of a summery warm-up! Warm air to the south will push a front northward, across the Piedmont. Highs will be near 90 with partly to mostly cloudy skies. There is just a 20% chance of rain Tuesday.

Showers and thunderstorms will be a bigger threat Wednesday as our severe weather risk rises to Level 2/Slight Risk. The chance of rain is 70% and highs will be in the mid-90s.

Thursday and Friday, high temperatures will top out in the lower 90s with a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms both days.

A cold front is expected to drop southward, across North Carolina, over the weekend. Highs Saturday will be in the upper 80s, but we will cool to the lower 80s by Sunday. Rain chances stay likely Saturday, around 60%. Sunday, there is a 40% chance of showers.
