Some residents, visitors being asked to evacuate in Oak Island after Isaias

OAK ISLAND, N.C. — Some Oak Island residents and visitors are being asked to evacuate the town in the aftermath of Isaias, according to the town’s mayor.

The town released the following information:

Due to the impact of Hurricane Isaias, the Town of Oak Island has amended the State of Emergency Declaration. The Declaration now includes the following restrictions:

  • MANDATORY EVACUATION is ordered for all non-residents (renters, vacationers and guests) AND residents effective at 12 noon on Wednesday, August 5, 2020 in the following areas: All areas west of SE 40h Street on Beach Drive, Dolphin Drive and Pelican Drive and the side streets connecting to them;
  • CURFEW is in effect for the entire Town of Oak Island from 6 p.m. Tuesday, August 4 until 6 a.m. on Wednesday, August 5, and for the same hours every night until further notice.
  • Beach Drive, Dolphin Drive and Pelican Drive and the side streets connecting to them are CLOSED from SE 40th Street to the west end of the island.
  • The beach is CLOSED from SE 40th Street to the west end of the island.
  • The issuance of parking decals remains suspended until further notice.   

At least two people are dead in North Carolina and several others are injured following the storm.

Isaias made landfall on Ocean Isle Beach at 11:10 p.m. Monday as a Category 1 hurricane.

Tens of thousands of North Carolina residents are still without power.
