Around 6,000 people without power in Piedmont as storms roll east across NC

(WGHP) — Around 6,000 Duke Energy customers are currently without power in the Piedmont, the company reports.

The majority of the outages are in Forsyth County with over 4,000 reported in the Winston-Salem area.

Another 1,000 have been reported near Greensboro and Reidsville and around 1,000 have been reported in the Salisbury area.

Around 6 p.m., a severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Alamance, Guilford and Randolph Counties.

Locations impacted included:

  • Asheboro
  • Randleman
  • Pleasant Garden
  • Liberty
  • Ramseur
  • Denton
  • Frnaklinville
  • Staley
  • Climax
  • Gordontown

The warning expired at 7:15 p.m. for Guilford and Randolph Counties and 7:30 p.m. for Alamance County.

FOX8 Meteorologist Charles Ewing says Sunday will be sunny with highs in the lower-50s.
