GREENSBORO, N.C. — John Isner still remembers that phone call from his mom that rocked his world during his freshman year at Georgia.

That was when Karen Isner told John she had colon cancer.

That was in 2004, the cancer returned in 2007, but now Karen is doing great.

That’s what the Dec. 7 exhibition match at UNCG was all about. Isner, the highest ranked American tennis player taking on the former world No. 1, Andy Roddick. A fundraiser for the UNC Lineberger Cancer Center. That’s where Karen received her care. Telling the story to the crowd brought tears to John’s eyes.

The event helped raise almost $100,000 for the Lineberger Cancer Center in Chapel Hill.
