CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Former Wake Forest University football coach Jim Grobe told WFNZ radio in Charlotte he is interested in the head football coaching position at Army.

“Absolutely, mainly because I love the academies. I spent eleven years at the Air Force Academy with Fisher DeBerry and those kids are in my heart. I have not talked to them, so whether that’s something they would want, it’s certainly something I’m interested in,” Grobe said.

Grobe also talked about how it was tough to leave Wake Forest University.

“It’s really tought to leave the kids. That’s why I stayed at Wake Forest, when I had opportunities when I had a chance to take some other jobs. I felt like I had a calling to be at Wake Forest. We had a lot of success in the middle part of my career there and then went into neutral a little bit. I felt like the school had lost a little bit of energy trying to keep up with some of the other ACC schools. I just felt like it was time,” Grobe said.
