HIGH POINT, N.C. -- Top ranked cyclists from all over the country are descending upon High Point this weekend for the High Point Cycling Classic.
By the time they're finished determining who's the fastest, the city known for hosting the furniture market, may have another annual tradition.
For the first time, High Point's annual race will play host to the cream of the cycling crop with top cyclists from across the country coming to compete. This four-day event has been compared to the Daytona 500.
High Point beat out Austin, Texas and Sacramento, Calif. to host the event. The city will host the same national races in 2014.
City leaders are putting on a 'party,' with kid events, food vendors and an art show based on cycling.
With the main event kicking off Saturday night, city leaders will keep a close eye on the crowds with the hope that a prestigious bike race and everything that comes with it will grow into a High Point tradition.
