DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Danica Patrick has won the pole for the season-opening Nationwide Series race at Daytona.

She finished just ahead of Trevor Bayne, who won the Daytona 500 in thrilling fashion last year.

Patrick is the first woman to make the pole in a Nationwide Series race since Shawna Robinson at Atlanta in 1994.

Patrick moved from IndyCar to NASCAR full-time this season. She is scheduled to drive 10 Sprint Cup races for Stewart-Haas Racing and run every Nationwide race for J Motorsports.
