WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Before Burt Myers could take the number 1 car to victory lane on the opening night of Bowman Gray Stadium's 67th season of racing, he would have to get past the all-time winningest modified driver at the stadium, King of the Modifieds, Junior Miller. And that was while Myers was leading the race trying to put Miller a lap down.
Miller spent dozens of laps holding off a hard charging Myers until Myers finally decided enough was enough and drove to the outside of the 69 car.
The pair exchanged body blows for several laps, sawing at their steering wheels to keep their cars under control.
After Myers passed Miller, the 69 car dropped back into the pack and made more contact with another car bringing out the caution flag.
