Atlanta Braves hire former All-Star Chipper Jones

ATLANTA — The Atlanta Braves announced on Thursday that former All-Star Chipper Jones is back with the team.

On Tuesday afternoon, the team tweeted that Jones will take on the role of Special Assistant to Baseball Operations.

Jones spent his entire 19-year playing career with the Atlanta Braves. He was selected as the first overall pick in the 1990 MLB draft and, after working his way through the minor leagues, debuted for the Braves on Sept. 11, 1993.

An eight-time All-Star, Jones tallied a career 2,726 hits, 468 home runs and 1,623 RBIs with a .303 batting average.

Jones played his last game for the Braves on Oct. 3, 2012.
