WELCOME, N.C. — Wherever Berit Herrick goes, her feathered friend is always close by.

Her name is “Note” and she’s a duck that Berit has had her since she was a duckling.

Berit says the duck is her companion and follows her everywhere. She even takes the duck to work at Sunkissed Tanning Salon in Welcome, where Note “sits in her fabulous chair.”

Note is not the first duck to hang out there.

Berit had another duck named “Homie” that an employee gave to her as an Easter gift.

She had Homie for about two-and-a-half years before he suddenly died.

“I was heartbroken,” Berit said, referring to the loss of Homie. “He was my little buddy. We did everything together.”

The same employee then gave her Note.

Note’s full name is “The Notorious Homie.” Berit wanted Note to carry on Homie’s legacy.

Berit has since become attached to Note.

“She loves to be held and she likes to be held like a baby,” Berit said, referring to Note. “She’s very loving.”

A duck sitting in a tanning salon may not be something you expect to see. But in Welcome, this duck is quite “note-orious.”
