As the chairman of the US Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, North Carolina Senator Richard Burr has made national security a major issue in his reelection campaign against Democrat Deborah Ross.

Although Ross has commented and taken positions on foreign policy and national security issues, she has made domestic issues the focal point of her campaign.  The Burr campaign has criticized Ross for not taking a public stand on the Obama Administration’s hostage release deal with Iran and the payment that the administration made to Iran soon after the hostages’ release.

The Wall Street Journal – which broke the story of the payment – calls the payment, “ransom.”  Burr and other Republicans have been very critical of the payment and, for the first time, Deborah Ross goes on the record on the issue with FOX8.
