ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. — One person is in the hospital after escaping a flaming wreck on U.S. 29 near the Guilford and Rockingham County line on Thursday.
According to the highway patrol, around 5:30 p.m., a car towing a trailer was traveling southbound on highway 29, when the trailer was struck by a van following behind it. The driver of the vehicle — pulling the trailer, lost control, flipped and the car burst into flames.
All southbound lanes and one of the northbound lanes were closed during rush hour traffic. Drivers were detoured to other roads.
The trooper investigating the crash says charges are pending.
