Woman killed in wreck on southbound Business 85 in High Point

HIGH POINT, N.C. — A 32-year-old woman died in a wreck involving a car and a truck on southbound Business 85 in High Point on Thursday morning.

Capt. Gordon Stallings said the woman was driving a 2005 Toyota Corolla northbound on Business 85 around 8:30 a.m. when the vehicle crossed the median into southbound traffic and collided with a truck in the southbound lanes.

The car burst into flames shortly after the accident.

Courtney Ann Sanford, 32, of Clemmons, died at the scene.

The driver of the truck, a 73-year-old man, was not injured. The truck is registered to TT&E Iron in Garner.

A preliminary estimation of speed at impact is 45 mph, according to police. There was no indication of any impairing substances for either driver.

The initial cause for the collision has not been determined.

Both southbound lanes of Business 85 were blocked until 11 a.m. Thursday.
