LARGO, Fla. — Man’s best friend served as the best man at the recent wedding of U.S. Army veteran Justin Lansford.

In 2012, Lansford lost his leg to an IED explosion in Afghanistan.

Upon his return home, Lansford was paired with a support dog named Gabe. The then-2-year-old Golden Retriever had recently graduated from the Warrior Canine Connection, which pairs wounded warriors with support dogs.

On Saturday, Gabe stood by Lansford’s side as best man at his wedding to high school sweetheart Carol Balmes.

“It meant the world to have him next to me. He’s there for me all day, every day,” Lansford told the New York Daily News.

According to ABC, Lansford proposed on Veteran’s Day last year — with the help of Gabe.
