DAVENPORT, Iowa — The two women have been together the past 72 years and have traveled to all 50 states together.
On Saturday, they held hands in their wheelchairs and were married.
Alice “Nonie” Dubes, 90, and Vivian Doyack, 91, married in Iowa, the Quad City Times reported.
The women met in Yale, Iowa, and moved to Davenport in 1947. Doyack was an elementary school teacher and Dubes did payroll.
“We’ve had a good time,” Dubes said.
Same-sex marriage became legal in Iowa in 2009.
Officiant Rev. Linda Hunsaker said during the ceremony, “This is a celebration of something that should have happened a very long time ago.”
