SAGINAW, Mich. — A YouTube video claiming to show a Black Friday shopper stealing from a child is causing outrage – and skepticism.
The video was posted Thursday by a YouTube channel called “BlackFriday Fight” and currently has more than 6 million views.
It apparently shows a mother and her young child shopping. Suddenly, a woman comes up to the child and grabs a product right out of the kid’s hands.
The woman then tries to steal from the mother and the woman and the mother get into a scuffle.
The video description reads as follows, “Im posting anonymous because I don want 2b fired, but I work at this store in saginaw and this lady stole a veggie steamer from a KID on black friday! Shame.”
But some people on the internet are not buying the video and claim the entire thing may be staged.
The video appears to show the store opening and shoppers rushing in. The customers then throw themselves into a pile of apparent vegetable steamers.
But some are pointing out that it appears the mother and child are already holding the products before they got to the pile.
Other commenters online have asked why the woman would steal from the child when the exact same products are available right in front of her.
Fact-checking website Snopes.com has reviewed the video and labeled it “probably false.”
Some Reddit users suspect late-night comedy host Jimmy Kimmel may be behind the video.
Kimmel has been known to fool the media. In 2013, he produced a video claiming to show a girl accidentally setting herself on fire while “twerking.” He then made fun of news outlets for covering the story.
