SURRY COUNTY, N.C. — The Surry County Sheriff’s Office and the SBI are investigating the death of a 60-year-old woman who was found dead in her garden Tuesday.
Deputies were called to the scene at 143 Escape Lane at 4:15 p.m., according to Sheriff Graham Atkinson.
The woman was apparently working in the garden when she was killed by a gunshot.
Investigators are trying to determine if the victim was intentionally shot or if she was struck by a stray bullet from a hunter in the heavily wooded area.
An autopsy will be performed tomorrow at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem to determine what type of gun was used in the shooting.
