ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — A Rowan County woman who posted photos of her dog with its mouth taped shut to Facebook was found guilty of animal cruelty in court Thursday.
Kimberly Ann Howell, 25, was charged with animal cruelty in early October and was released from jail on a $3,000 bond, according to WBTV.
On Thursday, a judge sentenced Howell to a 45-day suspended sentence and 18 months of probation.
She also has to complete 36 hours of court-ordered community service with animal control.
In October, someone saw the pictures on Howell’s Facebook page and reported them to the Rowan Sheriff’s Office.
“I warned her,” Howell wrote in the post. “I told her I was going to teach her not to bite the baby again even play biting.”
Howell told authorities that she removed the tape immediately after posting the pictures.
She later posted to her Facebook page saying:
“Wow ok maybe I should of said I was joking when posting that. But honestly thought people would know better anyone who spend (sic) a week at my house would see how spoiled and loved my dog is. Anyways guess I really didn’t think through but anyone who knows me knows when I got Leah she [was] skin and bones how (sic) that animal abusee (sic).”
In court, Howell’s lawyer said they would appeal Thursday’s ruling, but she later withdrew the appeal saying, “I’ll take it.
