Woman airlifted to hospital after accident in Burlington

BURLINGTON, N.C. — A woman suffered serious injuries in an accident on Thursday afternoon near Burlington.

Officers responded to the intersection of Edgewood Ave. and Rockwood Ave. around 5:18 p.m. Thursday. Officers said the victim was traveling in a 2003 Nissan Altima north on Rockwood Ave. attempting to cross Edgewood Ave. when she collided with 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer.

The victim was briefly trapped in her vehicle. She was transported to Chapel Hill via helicopter where she received treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Trailblazer and her two passengers were not injured. She was cited for failing to stop for a red light and driving without a license.

The road was temporarily closed due to the investigation.
