CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. — A 70-year-old woman faces murder charges in connection with the deaths of her husband of 50 years and their son.
WTVR reported Estelle Virginia Jones was charged in connection with the deaths of husband Joseph Jones and son Perry Jones, 50, at the family’s home on Thursday. The home is located about 25 miles southwest of Richmond.
Police are classifying the deaths as domestic murder. The Chesterfield County prosecutor said during a hearing Friday that a handgun was used to kill both men.
Friends and family members who gathered outside the house said the deaths and murder charges shocked them.
Family members said Joseph Jones was a church deacon and a man of deep faith who was devoted to his family. Family members also described Perry Jones as mentally challenged.
The church’s pastor said that, if Estelle Jones were responsible for the deaths, she simply snapped.
Estelle Jones is being held in jail without bond.
