A Winter Weather Advisory is headed to the Piedmont Triad as near-freezing temperatures Tuesday and possible moisture set up the possibility for a wintry mix.
At 4 a.m. Tuesday morning, a Winter Weather Advisory goes into effect for our mountain counties and will remain in effect until 4 p.m.
If the moisture arrives in time, there could be a wintry mix of rain and snow.
According to Charles Ewing of the FOX8 Max Weather Center, it could start as early as 7 a.m. and end as late as 12 p.m.
There may be an accumulation of 1 to 3 inches west of the Blue Ridge.
In the Piedmont, it’s just a chilly rain expected, though there may be a few snowflakes mixed in for Wilkes and Surry counties.
During the day Tuesday, rain will end and skies will start to clear out for the drive home.
Highs are going to be chilly, in the mid- to upper 40s.
The FOX8 weather team will continue to follow this system as it gets closer to the Piedmont Triad and moves out.
