WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A Winston-Salem woman was convicted Thursday on charges that she neglected and physically abused her 10-month-old daughter, resulting in multiple fractures.
Candice Monique Johnson, of Brambleton Court pleaded guilty to two counts of felony child abuse inflicting serious physical injury and one count of felony child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury. Judge Patrice Hinnant of Forsyth Superior Court consolidated the charges, agreeing to a plea arrangement, and sentenced Johnson to 5 months to 15 months in prison.
The girl’s father, Angelo Demitrice Ford, 44, of Sunset Drive entered Alford pleas in February in connection with the physical abuse of the girl, Alana. An Alford plea means that Ford didn’t admit guilt but acknowledged that prosecutors had enough evidence to convict him had the case gone to trial. Ford entered Alford pleas to three counts of felony child inflicting serious physical injury. He was sentenced to two years to four years in prison.
