WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- As May 2013 approaches, Winston-Salem officials are asking for your help in planning the city's 100th anniversary celebration.

The city has formed a centennial commission, which wants to get input from people on how they would like to see the anniversary celebrated.

Suggestions can be submitted to the city's website or by calling Winston-Salem's citylink at (336) 727-8000. All ideas must be in before March 16.

"As you go back through and look at some of the history of Winston-Salem, it just has some fascinating things. One of the first items that came out of this meeting is let this also be an opportunity to not where people just celebrate but they learn something about the history of the city," said Ed McNeal with the City of Winston-Salem.

The independent cities of Winston and Salem merged in May 1913 to create Winston-Salem.
