Winston-Salem police arrest man on child pornography charges

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A man was arrested Thursday on multiple charges of sexual exploitation of a minor, according to a news release from Winston-Salem police.

Maxwell Leon Donathan, 33, of King, is charged with 22 counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and six counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.

On April 13, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a tip that child pornography was being uploaded to an electronic service provider and determined to be in Winston-Salem.

According to the news release, this information was forwarded to the Winston-Salem Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division where the Internet Crimes Against Children detectives began to investigate.

The investigation revealed that the location used to upload the child pornography was Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and Donathan was identified as the specific user.

Detectives found numerous illegal images and videos on Donathan’s work computer, the news release said.

Donathan’s bond was set at $250,000 and he is scheduled to appear in court July 28.
