WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Police have arrested a 20-year-old Winston-Salem man in connection with a fatal crash Sunday night.

Ashley Marie Agee, 30, of Winston-Salem, died from injuries she sustained in the crash at the intersection of Kernersville and Sedge Garden roads.

Police say Daniel James Jolin was driving a Jeep Cherokee and struck Agee’s Suzuki motorcycle from behind as both were heading southwest on Kernersville Road. The Jeep then hit an SUV, driven by 30-year-old Akilah Adeena Salandy, from behind.

“Everybody peeping, looking down and then backing up,” said Spanious Jessup, who drove up to the crash moments after it happened. “No one’s checking the pulse, no one’s seeing if the victim is OK.”

Jessup tells FOX8 he checked for Agee’s pulse, which he described as “weak” and “faint.”

Jessup added that the helmet he believes Agee was wearing was nearly 100 feet away from her body.

“The shoes and socks were completely removed from the victim,” he said.

Jessup began recording the scene, including a conversation he had with Jolin.

In it, Jolin can be heard saying, “but we’re safe, like, the insurance will take care of it.”

“I said, ‘Dude, this person could be dead over there. They’re doing CPR right now,’” Jessup said.

Neither Jolin nor Salandy were injured.

“[Jolin] acted as if he was surprised that it happened out of the blue,” Jessup said.

Jolin is charged with driving after consuming alcohol underage, misdemeanor death by vehicle, failure to reduce speed, failure to comply with restrictions on license and no operator license. He was taken to the Forsyth County Detention Center and is being held on a $13,000 secured bond.

Jolin is due in court on Aug. 3.

Agee’s death marks the 19th fatal crash in Winston-Salem in 2017, compared to six at this point in 2016.
