Winston-Salem cab driver shot in attempted armed robbery

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A Winston-Salem cab driver is recovering in the hospital after being shot during an armed robbery Monday night.

Police responded to reports of a shooting at 924 Gray Avenue just after 10 p.m.

When they arrived on the scene police found Abdoulaye Sarr, 46, lying in the street with a gunshot wound to his right thigh.

Sarr told police the suspects had requested a cab and when he arrived to pick them up, the two suspects held him at gunpoint inside the vehicle.

He was shot in the right thigh during a struggle with the suspects. The suspects then fled the scene before police arrived.

Sarr was taken to NC Baptist Hospital where he is currently being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspects were described as two men in their late teens or early 20s wearing black shirts and black shorts.

The investigation is ongoing.
