WILKESBORO, N.C. — A magistrate from Wilkesboro plans to use the $100,000 she won playing the Mega Bucks game to pay off her car loan and pay down on her mortgage.

“I was scratching the ticket at my house last Thursday and I just couldn’t believe it,” Tyler Roten said on Monday afternoon. “I didn’t really think there were any big prizes out there, but here I am. I’m very happy.”

After state and federal taxes were withheld, Roten received a check for $69,201. She bought the lucky $5 ticket at the P&J Express on U.S. 421 West in Wilkesboro.

“I’m glad we have the lottery,” Roten said as she collected her winnings. “It’s awesome that we can help the education programs and have fun at the same time. Anything we can do for education is a positive.”

As of Tuesday morning, seven more $100,000 top prizes remain to be claimed in the Mega Bucks game.
