Wildfire puts homes in jeopardy in Wilkes County

WILKES COUNTY, N.C. -- A wildfire is burning in Wilkes County, putting homes in jeopardy.

About 80 acres are on fire southeast of Wilkesboro close to N.C. 115 and Old Salisbury Road, according to the NC Forest Service

The fire was reported at about 12 p.m. Thursday.

The fire was started by someone who was burning debris in the area, a Wilkes County forester said.

The fire is 75 percent contained and there will be a crew on the scene to monitor the fire overnight.
