A Winston-Salem man was arrested Monday after his wife reported that he was married to another woman.

Keith Charles Diaz, 27, of 3965 Ebert Road in Winston-Salem, was charged with one count of felony bigamy.

On Sept. 17, 2015, Meredith Diaz told the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office that her husband was married to another woman and that they lived in the Arcadia community in Davidson County.

Meredith says she got suspicious after reading conversations between her husband and another woman online. Meredith did some digging, and says with the help of Davidson County deputies, she was able to find documents that supported he was married to the woman he was having online conversations with.

Official documents from the State of Tennessee show Keith Diaz was married to his first wife in 2011. Official documents from the State of Tennessee also state there was no record of a divorce.

Meredith and Keith Diaz later married in 2014 in Hawaii. Official documents from the State of Hawaii show Keith Diaz used the same personal information to apply for a marriage license in his second application as he did in his first.

Detectives began investigating the allegation and found that Keith Diaz had, in fact, married a woman in 2011 before marrying Meredith Diaz in 2014.

As a result, Keith Diaz was arrested and placed in the Davidson County Detention Center under a $1,000 secured bond.  He is scheduled to appear in Lexington District Court on Feb. 29.

Meredith Diaz is calling for better checks and balances when issuing a marriage license. She wants state leaders to pass some sort of legislation to tie a person’s social security number or driver’s license number to their marital status.
