GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. – The National Weather Service’s Winter Weather Advisory of rain and a wintry mix has suspended debris collection for the city of high Point.

High Point city representative Jeron Hollis said City Manager Strib Boynton postponed the debris pickup Sunday because of heavy rain and safety.

The Ingleside Compost Center closed three hours early Sunday as well for safety precautions.

Hollis said High Point is considering applying for FEMA assistance to reimburse the city for the unexpected costly clean up.

“We do have the furniture market coming up, so we do want to make sure that we safely and diligently do things as soon as possible,” Hollis said. “Crews will start collecting in grids tomorrow (Monday).”

NCDOT Engineer Brad Wall said they plan to hire contractors within the next two weeks to help with highway debris clean up along 421 in Guilford and Alamance counties.
