DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. -- A water main break Wednesday night forced police to close a stretch of U.S. 64 in Davidson County. The road reopened by 5 p.m. Thursday.

Police closed the stretch at about 9:29 p.m Wednesday after the water main broke near Skippers Restaurant and N.C. 109. Traffic in both directions was blocked.

Davidson Water reported that about 80 people didn't have water.

Davidson Water crews worked on the scene through the night to fix the break. They restored water to the area at 4:52 a.m. and made a temporary fix.

Now, the North Carolina Department of Transportation continued working to fully resolve the issue.

NCDOT planned to repair subgrading and apply 12 inches of asphalt.
