PHOENIX -- It was hard for one Arizona man to not let the bed bugs bite.

Jose Avalos de Leon and his wife, Lupita Cruz, were at a Phoenix-area Walmart this weekend when he was bitten by bed bugs while riding one of the store's motorized scooters.

Cruz described the incident in a Facebook post on Sunday, calling Walmart "filthy" and asking that the story is shared and circulated throughout social media.

Walmart on 35th ave and Bethany home has these full of bed bugs!!
The experience here has been awful ! My husband has an injured toe and he needed to use one of the electronic chairs, as we are driving through the store he feels that his back is itchy. As hes going through the store a little more he notices its getting worse. We stop by the restrooms and he gets up to check the chair, the chair was full of bed bugs and his whole back was bit.

In addition to the bed bug bites, Cruz says store staff attempted to brush the situation aside and acted as if they didn't notice the bed bugs.

A manager was called and he had told me that he didnt see any on it when it was clearly on there! I took pictures and i have proof that they where there. The lady manager that was called to come to us (Shannon) took it as if she had seen this already and didnt care and just told my husband to do an incident report. After the report was done he asked for a copy and she said she couldnt do that for him yet on the paper it said he could ask for one.

So, she did the best thing she could: Post the pictures and her story on Facebook.

Since she published the post early Sunday morning, it has tallied more than 11,613 likes, 2,700 likes, and 3,200 comments.

Walmart issued a statement to KNXV:

The carts have been pulled from public use, and we’re awaiting a team to arrive at the store for testing
