Virginia man wanted in fatal shooting arrested in North Carolina

GRAYSON COUNTY, Va. — A Virginia man who was wanted in connection with a double shooting that left one person dead has been arrested in North Carolina.

Greyling Dwayne “Benny” Davis, 52, of Grayson County, Va.,  crashed his vehicle in Alleghany County, N.C., while attempting to escape from authorities, according to a tweet from the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office.

Davis is accused of shooting David Patton and Karen Cates Sunday just after 8 a.m., according to WDBJ7.

Cates was taken to Baptist Medical Center where she later died from her injuries. Patton was treated and released from Twin County Hospital.

Officials told WDBJ7 that Davis was Cates’ estranged boyfriend. She had taken out a protective order against him prior to the shooting.
