SPARTANBURG, S.C. — A video that apparently shows a “worm” moving around inside a sealed package of fish has gone viral after it was posted to Facebook.
According to the poster, the video was shot inside a Costco store in Spartanburg. The video shows an orange “worm” squirming around inside the package of fish.
The video has been shared over 270,000 times on Facebook.
Craig Wilson, a Costco spokesman, told FOX Carolina the store has a “strong safety program” in place for their suppliers. He said all fish is carefully inspected.
Wilson said the “worm” is actually a parasite that can be found in fish and it’s not a food safety issue if the fish is cooked. He said the company is talking to their suppliers to make sure they can prevent similar incidents.
