A 40-year-old man was taken into custody Monday evening after a police chase stretched from Thomasville to the Winston-Salem city limits, according to a press release.

The chase started around 6 p.m. after police responded to Thomasville Family Pharmacy in reference to a man trying to fill a forged prescription. When they arrived, 40-year-old Jon Michael Carroll fled in a Toyota Prius.

FOX8's cameras captured several police cars chasing the suspect through the city.

The high-speed chase went through Davidson County and Forsyth County, and during the pursuit, Carroll allegedly attempted to hit Thomasville police officers with his car. It eventually ended when he crashed the car at the intersection of Old Salisbury Road and Preston Woods Drive in Winston-Salem.

Carroll was arrested and charged three counts of assault with a deadly weapon on a government official and flee to elude. Additional charges are expected after police say an investigation into the fraudulent prescription could span several jurisdictions.
