SOUTHMONT, N.C. — Authorities have released the identities of two people who died in a motorcycle crash Saturday night in Davidson County.

Chris Lee Morgan, 45, and Sherry Lowe McDowell, of Lexington, died in the crash, according to an authority.

It happened near the intersection of N.C. Hwy. 8 and South Shore Drive at about 7:15 p.m. Saturday, according to Davidson County emergency dispatch.

Dispatch said the motorcycle was the only vehicle involved in the crash. Both were on the motorcycle, with Morgan driving and McDowell riding as a passenger.

The motorcycle ran off the road and crashed where the highway curves, according to dispatch. Both were thrown from the motorcycle. Speed is said to have been a factor.
