Victim in homicide at Greensboro apartment building identified

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Police on Tuesday identified a man who was found dead at the Greensboro apartment building where he lived.

According to police, Alkhaafid Nariz Shumate, 34, was found dead around 11:15 a.m. Monday at the Heritage House at 310 West Meadowview Road.

Shumate’s body was discovered when officers responded to a 911 call regarding a “stabbing or shooting” at the complex, police said.  He was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS.

Police described the victim’s injury as a “possible gunshot wound.”  They said his death is being investigated as a homicide.

Detectives have not identified a suspect.
