Victim hospitalized after shooting in Winston-Salem; suspect in custody

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A suspect is in custody following a Tuesday morning shooting that sent one victim to the hospital in Winston-Salem.

At 11:10 a.m. Tuesday, police responded to a report of a shooting in the area of Indiana Avenue and North Cherry Street.

Officers located the shooting victim inside 132 Melody Lane with a gunshot wound to his lower leg, police said.

Officers were able to obtain suspect information, who police said was known to the victim.

The suspect was located during a traffic stop and was arrested without incident.

Dashawn Marquis Anderson, 22, of Winston-Salem, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a stolen gun.

The victim was taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for what police believed to be a non-life-threatening injury.
