ASHEVILLE, N.C. — A biology professor at a North Carolina school has discovered a new snake species.
USA Today reported that the discovery was recently made by University of North Carolina at Asheville Assistant Professor of Biology Graham Reynolds.
It happened as Reynolds led a team from Harvard’s Museum of Comparative Zoology on an expedition of a remote part of the Bahamian Archipelago.
“We found this species on its way to extinction, and now we have the opportunity to intervene on their behalf so that doesn’t happen,” Reynolds said, according to the paper.
The team named the new species the Silver Boa, “Chilabothrus argentum.” Their finding will be published in an upcoming journal.
