CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Carowinds amusement park in Charlotte has officially opened two new “mega-slides” in its water park.

The amusement park posted to its Facebook page on Friday that the slides are officially open and were tested by a group of swimmers.

Park officials said the water slides stand more than four stories high, with “Surfer’s Swell” at 263 feet and “Dorsal Fin Drop” at 351.

Construction on both slides started in the fall as part of the first phase of a $50 million expansion at the park.

Other improvements will reportedly include more air-conditioned seating and more healthy eating choices, such as gluten-free foods.

This will be the first set of improvements the park has made to Boomerang Bay since the Wave Pool was added in 2008, according to the Charlotte Observer.
