Two injured, one charged after hit-and-run in Thomasville

THOMASVILLE, N.C. — Two people were injured and one person was arrested after a hit-and-run accident in Thomasville on Monday.

The crash happened around 2:51 p.m. on Winston Street near West Main Street.

Police say Dwight A. Chambers, 22, of Thomasville was driving a 1999 Nissan on Winston Street. He was attempting to make a left turn into a parking lot when he hit a motorcyclist traveling south on Winston.

Cody Eugene Johnson, 25, of Lexington, was lying in the roadway with serious injuries to his body when police arrived.

Chambers said he never saw Johnson.

A second motorcyclist Nathan Gene Surratt, 18, of Denton, was behind Johnson and was also injured when he attempted to avoid the crash.

Police say Chambers left the scene of the crash. He was later identified and charged with felony hit and run, unsafe movement in relation to a motorcycle and driving while license is suspended.

He was placed in the Davidson County Jail under a $20,000 bond.

The investigation is ongoing.
