GREENSBORO, N.C. — Two bodies found in a burned vehicle off Thurston Avenue yesterday are believed to be persons reported missing on Sunday.

At approximately 3:30 pm Monday, city officials located a burned vehicle in an undeveloped area off of Thurston.

They found what they believed to be human remains in the vehicle. It is unclear how long the vehicle was on Thurston.

The remains are consistent with that of an adult and small child.

Police believe the victims may be a mother and son reported missing Sunday evening by a co-worker of the woman.

The victims are tentatively identified as Asia Larose Brown, 22, and her son Ashton Paul Brown, 2. They were last seen on on Feb. 20.

Due to the condition of the remains, positive identifications are pending further examination by the State Medical Examiner’s Office.

Police are classifying these deaths as homicides, although cause of death has not yet been established. Police are running the missing persons and homicide investigations concurrently until the identities of the victims are confirmed.

Greensboro Police Department Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators along with Greensboro Fire Department Arson Investigators are processing the scene, examining evidence and conducting interviews to determine the events leading to these homicides.

Police have been canvassing the area where the car was found and following potential leads that may help determine how the deaths occurred.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Asia and Ashton is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at (336) 373-1000 or text the tip to 274637 using the keyword badboyz. All calls to Crime Stoppers are completely anonymous.
