CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. — Two people were arrested after Catawba County officials said they led police on a high-speed chase for 40 miles with a child in the backseat.

WSOC reported that that Pho Duc Nguyen, 25, of Newton, and Say Su Dung, of Statesville, were charged after the chase on Saturday night, which started in Iredell County and ended in Hickory.

Authorities said the suspect crashed the vehicle in to several police cruisers before coming to a stop in a neighborhood.

Nguyen faces several charges including attempted first-degree murder and three charges of assault with a deadly weapon on a government officer. He received a bond of more than $535,000.

Authorities said the driver and the baby were taken to the hospital. It has not been confirmed yet whether Nguyen or Dung was driving the vehicle.
