HIGH POINT, N.C. — A routine visit to the doctor quickly became a scene of chaos.
“Got myself signed in, took me a seat, and all of a sudden I heard something like, boom, something hit something,” said Linda Daniels.
A driver rammed his truck into a first-floor room at Wake Forest Baptist Health Convenience Care, a physician office on Westchester in High Point.
High Point police got the call about the accident at 9:16 a.m.
“I said, ‘Oh my God, they better call the ambulance. They better call somebody quick before that thing is on fire,’” said Daniels.
Patients and employees forced outside for several minutes.
“Smoke, dust, then it went into the window and I could still see smoke. I could smell the smoke,” said Daniels.
Sam hung around after the all-clear to watch the aftermath, like Daniels.
“At first, they couldn’t get in there. They had to start clearing stuff out because he was wedged in there,” she said.
The driver went to the hospital, but High Point police said he’s fine.
Within an hour, the battered truck was pulled out the same way it came in. The building is temporarily down one room. Linda is happy they’re making repairs and not healing wounds.
“It’s a wonderful feeling to know nobody was in that room and nobody was hurt. Just thank God,” said Daniels.
