CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.C. — Authorities said a tractor-trailer hauling 35,000 pounds of sugar caught fire Tuesday morning on I-95 in Cumberland County.

Highway Patrol told the Fayetteville Observer the truck was headed north around 5 a.m. when a passing motorist alerted the driver the trailer was on fire.

Trooper B.D. Freeman said the truck’s owner pulled the rig off the road and disconnected the cab from the burning trailer near Wade and Falcon. No injuries were reported.

Freeman said the fire destroyed the sugar and trailer. Authorities did not release the cause of the fire or damage estimate.
