RALEIGH, N.C. — The trials of two people linked to Gov. Beverly Perdue’s 2008 gubernatorial campaign have been delayed while rulings on motions they filed to have their cases dismissed are appealed.
Superior Court Judge Abraham Jones issued a stay Monday on all trial proceedings against Trawick “Buzzy” Stubbs and Juleigh Sitton while the Court of Appeals hears the defendants’ arguments.
Jones last month rejected motions by Stubbs and Sitton on several issues, including whether the law required they be tried in their respective home counties and not Wake County. Stubbs had been scheduled to go on trial next week.
Stubbs and Sitton are each charged with obstruction of justice and causing Perdue’s campaign to file false campaign reports. Stubbs was a Perdue campaign donor. Sitton served as a campaign aide.
