Trees down, power out as storms roll through the Triad

Severe storms rolled through the Piedmont Triad on Wednesday evening.

There are reports of multiple trees down in the FOX8 viewing area.

FOX8 has reports of trees down on houses in the following locations:

  • A large tree fell on a house in the 2300 block of Edgewood Drive in High Point.
  • A tree fell on a house on Century Park Court in Kernersville.
  • A tree fell on a mobile home in the 6200 block of Old Mendenhall Road in Archdale.

A large tree is also down on Young Place in High Point, where it fell on two cars.

There is a hole in the roof of Highland Baptist Church on Textile Place in High Point due to storm damage.

A firefighter was shocked by getting too close to downed power lines while at the scene on Old Mendenhall Road in Archdale. No other injuries were reported as a result of the storms.

There is no word on the extent of the damage to the houses hit by trees.

According to the Duke Energy outage map, the following Triad counties have more than 1,000 customers without power as of 10:30 p.m. Wednesday:

  • Guilford - 1,100
  • Davidson -1,900
  • Randolph - 1,600

High Point Electric reports there are more than 2,100 outages in the city.
