RALEIGH, N.C. — The N.C. DOT will begin shifting traffic Thursday night to the newly-constructed outside lanes of Interstate 85 North from the Business I-85 off-ramp in Davidson County.

The shift will begin around 8 p.m. Thursday and conclude by 6 a.m. Friday, DOT officials said.

To move traffic safely and efficiently, officials say crews must close multiple lanes of I-85 North, as well as several ramps, including the entrance ramp from I-85 North to Business I-85 (exit 87) and the Linwood exit ramp from I-85 North (exit 88).

The ramp closures will not take place at once. They will occur one after another during the traffic shift period, starting with the I-85 Business entrance ramp.

Drivers heading north on I-85 who want to access I-85 Business during the closure should exit the interstate at the Linwood exit (exit 88), turn left onto Hargrave Road and take the I-85 Business North entrance ramp.

Those wanting to access Hargrave Road during the exit 88 closure should exit onto I-85 Business (exit 87), then take the first exit (exit 84) and proceed straight on Hargrave Road.

The shift will complete the transition of traffic to the new outside lanes for the entire length of the I-85 Corridor Improvement Project in the northbound direction.
