DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. — The tractor-trailer driver killed in an accident on U.S. 52 South in Davidson County on Monday night has been identified.

Chauncey Bratcher, 40, of Greensboro, was killed in the accident, according to Highway Patrol.

Highway Patrol said Bratcher was operating a Southeastern Freight Lines tractor-trailer. For an unknown reason, Bratcher failed to reduce speed and rear-ended another Southeastern Freight Lines tractor-trailer that was stopped for DOT work, according to Highway Patrol.

The driver of the other tractor-trailer was not injured in the accident.

A hazmat crew had to be called to the scene for a corrosive material that spilled onto the roadway because of the crash.

U.S. 52 was shut down in both directions for several hours as the scene was cleared and has since reopened.

No charges were filed against anyone as a result of the accident, Highway Patrol said.
